Part of the local community

For nearly 100 years, Hurlingham Yacht Club has been an integral part of the local community.  We recognise that the Deodar Road area is predominantly a residential area, so we work hard to be responsible neighbours and a meeting point for the local community.  Even though the District Line thunders across the bridge over our heads, we try to avoid our neighbours from being disturbed by our normal club activities.  For example, we limit the time of the day that members can work on their boats in the yard and have recently installed sound limiters in the clubhouse.

We encourage residents from the local community to come visit the club, and we plan to host several community events and BBQs during the coming year.

Being a not-for-profit organisation allows us to open up our facilities for use by other local community groups, normally at a minimal cost.  Our clubhouse plays host to meetings of various local groups, including the Royal Thames Society, the West London River Group, local Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Putney Sub-Aqua Club, the Deodar Road Residents Association, Friends of Wandsworth Park, Wandsworth Arts Group, Putney Sea Cadets, the Boat Race, the Jubilee Trust and the Maritime Volunteer Service.

We also provide access and recovery points for the RNLI and the Port of London Authority.

Raising money for good causes

Club members raise funds for a number of worthwhile causes, including Cancer Research UK and the Royal British Legion poppy appeal.  For example, the last club night raised nearly £700 for Cancer Research UK.
